close look at our property taxes – what they are and what we get for them. We will
prepare a series on property taxes, digging deeper into the details as we go.
This is the first installment, which provides an overview of how our property taxes have

Some Information on Our Taxes From SIPOA

At a time when those of us who are property owners on Saturna have just recently received our 2012 B.C. Property Assessment notices and wondering just how much our tax bill will be, it may be timely to highlight some information received from the British Columbia Surveyor of Taxes regarding property taxes paid on Saturna.

Dear SIPOA members,

SIPOA will be making a short presentation to the BC Ferry Commissioner in respect of his review of the Coastal Ferry Act on October 1, 2011. Our intent is to provide feedback that looks to finding prospective solutions for the BC Ferry Commissioner to pursue as opposed to rehashing a complaint list.

Re: Saturna Island and Water Conservation

I am writing you in my capacity as President of the Saturna Island Property Owners' Association (SIPOA). Our current membership comprises almost half the property owners on Saturna Island.

The Aug 31, 2011 LTC meeting was an extended session that ran from 12:30 pm until 6 pm. This meeting was well attended, particularly through the Community Information and the Public Hearing sections on proposed Bylaw 104 that were scheduled as the first main items. These sessions ran past 4 pm.

Ron Hall, on behalf of SIPOA gave a presentation [see below], as a delegation, providing a summary of the letter that SIPOA had submitted on August 17th, commenting on Bylaw 104.
