Granting policy procedures of SIRRA, November, 2018
A. The PURPOSES of SIRRA as stated in its constitution are:
“2. The purposes of the Society are:
(a) To provide a forum for members to discuss matters of common interest on
issues of legislation, regulation, taxation and policies of governments and
government services relating to Saturna Island.
(b) To communicate to members concerning these issues, to provide for
meaningful consultation with members, to receive their views and to make
recommendations relating to these issues.
(c) To provide a voice through which members may disseminate their views to
the general public, governments, and other appropriate audiences. “
B. POLICY:
Grants should be perceived to be fairly and equitably distributed in the Saturna community,
consistent with the purposes of SIRRA as stated above.
C. PROCEDURES:
1. Applicants shall use the 'Application Form' approved by the Board of SIRRA, attached
hereto. Applications may be made at any time. All applications shall be considered by the
Board at the next scheduled meeting, unless otherwise decided by the Board.
2. All complete and substantively appropriate applications shall be considered. All applicants
shall be contacted. Incomplete or inappropriate applications shall be contacted and given a
reasonable opportunity to comply.
3. The Board of SIRRA shall decide complete and appropriate applications by a simple
majority vote, by ordinary resolution.
4. Successful and unsuccessful applicants shall be informed by the President in a timely
manner. Successful applicants must agree to participate in reasonable promotion for SIRRA.
D. GENERAL APPLICATION CRITERIA: (See application form)
1. Applicants must be identified and provide adequate contact information.
2. Applicants must describe how the granted money will be used for purposes consistent with
the purposes of SIRRA.
