2020 AGM Presidents Report July 18, 2020

SIRRA is rolled out a new website that has more versatility with other social platforms including a FaceBook page. SIRRA contributed to the Fire Smart Program and Saturna Island Singers. Sirra also made significant donations to the Heritage Centre at the FAB for new interpretive panels, and for a memorial bench for past member Bill Schermbrucker, who died this past year. New SIRRA Brochure Meeting with Adam Olsen, the primary topics were Saturna Island roads. Narvaez and Cliffside for resurfacing with chip seal whereas Harris a safety concern and access to Mount Warburton. Follow up with our MLA was interrupted by COVID. A draft letter was prepared for a letter writing campaign. Numerous letters were sent out regarding the Island Trust. To the Minister of Municipal Affairs as well as IT Chief Administration Officer; further SIRRA made representation to IT this past June 17th by Mairead Boland and very well received. SIRRA has expressed it’s concerns over Island Trust accountability and Budget process. Parks Liaison (Susie Washington Smythe) has represented SIRRA’s interests with Parks. Focus has been on the Sanctuary Zone for 2020 and joint SRKW project with participation of Parks Canada and Transport Canada.
